ONLINE: CONCERT | Tubonika

After a wonderful contribution to the Austrian National Day celebration on October 26, 2020 Tubonika is back with more.

Tubonika is a Styrian duo that knows how to combine smooth accordion melodies with the voluminous tones of a tuba. They are looking for something different and find happiness in combining the old with the new. The two young musicians Jonny Kölbl (harmonica) and Tobias Weiß (tuba) respectfully break with tradition. They shift folk music into the present, they open it up musically and cross it - as if nothing more natural existed - with elements of other musical forms and styles. In the pieces of Tubonika one hears jazz as well as classical music, world music and even pop. An unusual musical mixture that is easy to listen to from the start.

The music video is available for viewing on the YouTube Channel of the Austrian Embassy through December 2020.

Tubonika’s musical career began in Slovenia, more precisely in Koper, when Jonny Kölbl (harmonica) and Tobias Weiß (tuba) were on a concert tour of the European Spirit of Youth Orchestra. They recognized the harmony of the two instruments and have remained true to each other ever since.

The young, talented two-man team successfully tries to redefine the sound of folk music and ignites a rousing musical fireworks display. They move folk music into the present, they open it up musically and combine it - as if there were nothing more natural - with elements of other musical forms and styles. Jazz can be heard in the pieces by Tubonika as well as classical, world music and even pop.

An unusual musical mixture that captivates the audience from the start.
