ABOUT AUREUM SAXOPHONE QUARTET

When the members of the AUREUM Saxophone Quartet first crossed paths at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, none of them knew what their future would bring. Four different characters found their destiny, and together they entered the world of music. The common goal of the ensemble is to bring classical music closer to the people. Eventually, they became one body of sound. The name of the ensemble originates from the Latin word AUREUM, meaning “golden”, which recalls the material of their instruments.

The group’s interests oscillate between traditional and progressive ways of musical expression. The range of their repertoire extends from baroque to contemporary music. All four musicians contribute different aspects to their music which result in a mix of classical music, jazz, world music and real Austrian folk music at the highest level. Their constant focus is based on exploring the infinite array of sounds possible on the saxophone. Apart from that, their “1 day – 2 concerts” concept addresses two totally different target groups: With their afternoon children concerts and the common evening concerts, the AUREUM Saxophone Quartet reaches all generations in just one day!
