In its 14th year, Kids Euro Fest, one of the largest performing arts festivals for children in America, brought some of Europe’s most talented children’s entertainers to the nation’s capital—and across America—physically and virtually. With in-person and online programs both for the general public and for school groups, more than 10,000 U.S. children and their families enjoyed Kids Euro Festival programs.
Kids Euro Fest was made possible with the coordination, input, and assistance of the 27 Embassies of the EU Member States and the European Union Delegation in Washington, along with the support of the European-American Cultural Foundation.
AUSTRIA’S CONTRIBUTION
WORKSHOP | “When I am painting, I am dreaming.”
In a creative workshop at the House of Sweden our young participants discovered the Austrian painter and environmentalist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. They got to know "the window right", learned about the uneven floors and forests on the roofs of his buildings, and created their own Hundertwasser painting full of vibrant colors but no straight lines.

The Austrian painter, architect, enviromentalist and philosopher Friedensreich Hundertwasser is considered as one of the most influnential artists of post-war modernism in Europe. By his colourful, biomorphic shapes and ornaments he created a unique visual language, unmistakably influenced by his great respect for nature. As an enviromental pioneer Hundertwasser strove for a more human architecture in harmony with our ecosystem. He manifested his green activism not only by his organic artworks and buildings but also through ecological campaigns and disseminating letters and speeches on the cruciality of enviroment. Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s work as well as his demands have not lost topicalty ever since.
